Review American Journey's Six Color All Terrain Watercolor Set @CheapJoes #Watercolor #WatercolorReview

Image
If you are here for my Rhodia Heritage Giveaway, you can find it here.  The giveaway ends Friday!

I've wanted to try out some of Cheap Joe's American Journey brand of watercolors for a while.  I saw their All Terrain Set and thought it was an interesting mix of colors - different from what I already have, so I bought it.

I would swear that I took photos when the set first arrived, but I can't find them, so you get to see what the tubes look like after I've squeezed most of the paint into a palette, lol.

This paint set includes a 5 ml. tube each of Blue Stone, Coastal Fog, Pat's Coastal Blue, Quinacridone Gold Deep, Rainforest and Raw Umber Violet.

If you haven't already guessed by looking at the tubes, this is NOT a set for those who are obsessed with transparency or single pigment paints.  What I found intriguing though is that several of the colors have pigment in common.  Read on. You'll see what I mean later.

If you are here for my Rhodia Heritage Giveaway, you can find it here.

Pigments-Qor Mars Orange Deep, Nickel Yellow, Indigo, Sap Green. Green Gold on Winsor & Newton 140 Cold Pressed Paper, 5x7.  Brushes used-Princeton Snap Size 6 Round, 3/4 inch Stroke (Flat).

I picked up some new Qor watercolors and rather than just doing a mix chart I decided to just try painting with them.  I'll probably do a mix chart later, though.

Review-Rhodia Heritage Book Block Notebook #RhodiaHeritage #Clairefontaine #Notebook

Image
Today I am reviewing the Rhodia Heritage book block Tartan notebook with a graph format.  I was very lucky to receive (and give away five in a giveaway that is now ended). The prizes and my copy were generously given by Exaclair, USA, and I'm very thankful because these have been selling out.

I just learned that my contact at Exaclair, USA, Karen, is retiring.  I wish her the best of luck and great joy in this new path in life.

Look & Feel

Coneflowers in Amethyst #FountainPenInk #ExaclairUSA #JacquesHerbin

I was inspired by some paintings that Thomas Blanchard did with fountain pen ink, and decided to try it for myself.

I painted a wash with Amethyste de l’Oural on Winsor & Newton 140 lb cold press paper.  Then I dipped my brush in water and lifted the pigment to create the flower petals.  Once that dried, I painted another layer of ink around and behind the flowers.

This ink has both sheen and glitter.  It shows in the original, but of course, I couldn't get it to show in either scan or photo.

It was an interesting experiment.  I'll probably do more with this in the future.

I shouldn't really have taken the time, but I wanted to do something for the 'Taking it to the Next Level' challenge at the Zentangle All Around Facebook group.

It feels distinctly unfinished to me, and I may come back to back to it.  Copper Gelly Roll pen and Stabilio 88 black pen on Strathmore gray-toned tile.

It's all nice and glittery in real life.

Winsor & Newton Prize Package Review #WorldWatercolorGroup #Doodlewash #Winsor&Newton

Image
July was World Watercolor Month and Charlie O’Shields at Doodlewash® helped watercolor artists celebrate by hosting several giveaways during the month.  I had the incredible luck of winning, not one, but two (!) of the giveaways.  I'm still waiting for one of my prizes, but last week I received my Winsor & Newton prize package.  I want to thank Charlie and Winsor & Newton.  My package was sent through Colart, so I'll add them to the 'Thank you' list as well.

I received three 5 ml tubes of Winsor & Newton Professional watercolor along with a size 4 round Series 7 brush, and 5 x 7 (13 cm x 18 cm) Winsor & Newton watercolor pad.  A nifty little set!

So, of course, I have to do a review.  It's what I do!

Since I'm reviewing all the items, I won't go into much depth for any of them, and I'm only using the items in the set.  Results will differ to some degree when using other papers or brushes.  I have enough experience with Winsor & Newto…

Three Pumpkin Fun & Easy Landscape Step-outs #Fun&EasyLandscape #Step-out #DrawingTutorial

Image
It's a little early to be preparing for fall, but this time of the year the weeks go by quickly.  I thought I'd get these pumpkins out there for those fun & easy fall landscapes that are sure to be happening soon.

I'd apologize for the bad scan, but there's a method to my madness.  I hope my step-outs are clear enough for your use, but not clear enough for anyone to copy and claim as their own.  Ain't I sneaky?
